Sky Purington fires up Wicked Wednesday with The King's Druidess/Interview

Well, it's that time again. Today for Wicked Wednesday we kick off the blog with a very special guest and my close friend, Sky Purington! She'll talk a bit about her novella The King's Druidess, tell us a little about herself AND give away not one, not two, but THREE books today to one lucky commenter. R.R: Tell us a little about The King's Druidess.

S.P: Thanks for having me over today, Rynne! I thought I’d chat a little bit about The King’s Druidess (The MacLomain Series- Prelude). Oddly enough, I wrote this tale after writing the three novels in the series. My publisher was looking for short stories so I thought, “Wouldn’t it be fun tell a brief story about the parents of the clan!” So where the series in about a medieval Highland clan, The King’s Druidess tells about their origin in 5th century Ireland.

R.R: What was your inspiration for this wicked story?

S.P: The history behind the MacLomain clan tells of its origins coming from two brothers who were sons to the last official king of the Dal’Raida clan in Eire (Ireland) who fled Ireland and headed for the uncharted land now known as Scotland. The entire series follows the descendants of one of those sons. You learn his identity in the last novel, Sylvan Mist.

R.R: Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp or was it written for the purpose of pure naughty enjoyment?

S.P: Pure naughty enjoyment! But I think the fact that it’s a prelude (short little tale leading into a long series) should be taken into consideration.

R.R: Describe your writing process?

S.P: Typically, my writing process begins with history. A tidbit here. A tidbit there. If it grabs me it’s being worked into a story. Then the characters tend to take over. By the time they’re finished, I’ve got a plot I never saw coming!

R.R: How long have you been writing?

S.P: Since I was seven. (Sky’s eyes go round) Nearly thirty years!

R.R: Are there any authors you would name as influences?

S.P: Besides you? (LOVE Rynne’s work). There have been many. Before I started reading romance I was reading Fantasy fiction for years and years. In fact, I hope to write strictly fantasy fiction someday. Authors like Terry Goodkind, Katherine Kerr, George R.R. Martin and Melanie Rawn were some of my favorites. When it comes to writing style I really like romance authors Lisa Kleypas and Christina Dodd. I couldn’t replicate their style if I tried though. I definitely have my own ‘voice.’

R.R: What led you to the erotic genre?

S.P: I guess you could say I sort of stumbled upon it! The King’s Druidess was by no means an erotica when it started. When I polished it for republication for last year it started to be labeled that way by bloggers, etc. I’m still not sure if it is erotica but I’ll go with the flow. *grins*

R.R: Are you currently working on anything deliciously wicked?

S.P: Yep! Two novels in fact. The Georgian Embrace (Calum’s Curse: Acerbus Lycan) which is going to edits soon and The Tudor Revival (Calum’s Curse: claudetur omnis). These are the second and third novels following The Victorian Lure (Calum’s Curse: Ardetha Vampyre) which is already available for purchase. Three haunted houses, three sexy-as-hell ghost hunters turned warlock. These novels have been a blast to write and the last two are definitely naughty.

R.R: You've got six key words to describe your own wicked fantasy. What are these six words?

S.P: Tall, Highland, Warrior, Scotland, Multiple, Orgasms (And that’s just for starters!)

R.R: What is your all-time favorite "get you in the mood" song?

S.P: I think we could turn back the clock on this one to 1990. Mea Culpa by Enigma (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itkzaT9yk9Y ) is one amazing song when the room is full of candles and he’s not wearing clothes. Yes, it’s in French but that’s half the pleasure.

R.R: Can you share a wicked excerpt with us today? (the naughtier, the better! *wink*)

S.P: Sure! Please note that this story is told in a far more formal style than the series. After all, it was Irish nobility.

Excerpt

"Come to me, Druidess of Ulster, woman of 'Erie, Chiomara Ruadh." Erc’s strong hands carefully removed her gown.

Ohhhh. She loved the feeling of standing nude in front of him. The way his pupils flared and his body tensed, as though he wanted to skip the details and ravage her immediately.

She bowed her head and then held it noble. "And you me, my king of Dalriada, Erc."

Chiomara removed the symbol of his kingdom, his wide gold broach and stepped back. Slow, as if he knew exactly how to tempt her, he unclothed. Keep your eyes on his. Remember the gods and goddesses watch. Their eyes held one another’s and allowed the audience of spirits past to give appraisal.

At last, he commanded, "Come to me."

She flew into his arms and met his lips hungrily. Heat sizzled over her skin when his fingers trailed down her spine and curved over her backside. His heavy, eager erection pressed against her stomach.

Mists of old rolled over and muted their moans of passion. When his well-muscled arm encircled her waist and lifted, Chiomara wrapped her legs around him. She slid her arms around his neck and held on tight. Staring deep into her eyes, he slowly, inch by inch, let her slide until she felt the welcoming head of his manhood start to enter her.

Breathe. Breathe. But breathing became impossible. Chiomara gasped when with a sharp thrust he impaled himself. Pain quickly shifted to pleasure as he rolled his hips upward while simultaneously rolling her hips with the sheer strength of his sturdy hands.

They knew. This moment within the Stonehenge was theirs. As free and wild as the hearts pounding within their mortal forms. As tempered and private as the desire they kept locked within.

He sunk to his knees and brought her to the ground. The soft grass beneath her back soothed her flaming skin. Braced on his elbows, Erc stared at her and Chiomara knew he had so much to say. That they had so much to say, but couldn’t.

Ever so slightly, she pulled up one knee. His eyelids lowered. He shifted his hips. She moaned. Bracing herself on her elbows, she leaned up until their lips were within inches, until their breath intermingled, until she could see the dark, turbulent center of his eyes swim with desire.

Before she could speak he put a finger to her lips and shook his head. Chiomara flicked out her tongue and lightly ran it over his finger. Erc licked his lips and slowly thrust in and out.

A swift surge of pleasure shot up through her belly into her chest and she fell backward. Before she could gain her bearings, he came down and thrust hard. Ohhhh!

The grass warmed. Light rain fell. Thunder rumbled low and eager, vibrating the ground.

She grabbed his wide shoulders and wrapped her legs high and wide, needing him closer, deeper. Erc’s eyes stayed locked with hers as he moved. In. Out. In. Out. Please, Goddess, let this last forever.

Even as she thought it, her belly started to quiver. His lips thinned and his facial expression bordered on bliss. Sweat and rain soaked their skin. The sweet ache in her groin burned a slow path outward until it sped up and tiny little shivers began to ripple down her limbs.

“Chiomara,” he cried and thrust one last time. The feeling of him throbbing deep inside made her explode. Little stars burst in her vision. Ecstasy took the mere ripples of pleasure and made them erupt into gushes of sweet agony.

I love you. I always have.

But these were things she wasn’t allowed to voice. Words that didn’t belong between a king and a Druidess.

RR: Tell us a little about Southern Seduction.

LZ: Southern Seduction is about Ramona Squires. She fell in the love with Ross Spears the first day she saw him in the second grade. Twenty-two years later when his truck breaks down in front of her house, she discovers that her crush wasn't unrequited. Neither had the guts to reveal their true feelings when they were teenagers. After years of wild, erotic wet dreams, will reality live up to the fantasy? Or will it be better?

RR: What was your inspiration for this wicked story?

LZ: A dream. No, not that kind of dream, darn it. I was at the Oklahoma Writers Federation conference in Oklahoma City last year and had this vivid dream of a guy I had a crush on throughout school. He was simply divine. I couldn’t for the life of me understand why he popped into my head. I hadn’t thought of him in years and there he was in all his save-a-horse-ride-a-cowboy glory walking through my dream. I even talked to my friend who can analyze dreams better than any shaman and she didn’t know what it was about either. On the long drive home it hit me. My unrequited love was haunting me because I needed to write a story about him. I’d talked with Rhonda Penders of The Wild Rose Press about venturing into erotica. I put two and two together and the result was a lot more dreams about my hot unrequited high school love and Southern Seduction.

RR: Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp or was it written for the purpose of pure naughty enjoyment?

LZ: There’s no underlying message in Southern Seduction. Its entire purpose is naughty enjoyment. I hope readers enjoy the story as much as I did writing it. It’s amazing how quickly the windows in my office steam up when I’m writing. I hope readers get a little hot under the collar, or better yet hot under the belt, when they read it.

RR: Describe your writing process?

LZ: I’m not a morning person, so I was really surprised to discover that I do my best writing in the mornings. I think it’s because nothing has cluttered my head yet. I wake up, grab something caffeinated and sit down in front of the computer. Since I garden in the South, I’ve tried to change my schedule so I’m outside in the cool(er) morning and inside writing in the afternoons, but it just doesn’t work for me. I need the clean slate of a newly awakened mind in order to write effectively. I used to devote 4 hours a day to writing, but I’ve allowed other things to get in my way. So, the start of 2012 has been committed to return to that schedule. So far, I’ve been about 53% successful in that attempt.

RR: How long have you been writing?

LZ: I started writing when I was a kid. I always kept a journal of some sort and I wrote my first novel in a notebook that I hid under my bed. No, I wasn’t writing erotica at the age of eight, but I was writing about how mean my brothers were and I just knew they’d find the notebook and kill me. It never occurred to me that I could make a living as an author, so I got a degree in education and taught English—talk about not making a living! When I moved to Alaska, I was hired on as a technical writer for the county government. It wasn’t until I returned to the Ozarks three years ago that I tried my hand as a fiction writer. I absolutely love it, but I’m still trying to figure out how to make a living at it.

RR: Are there any authors you would name as influences?

LZ: As a child, S.E. Hinton and Judy Blume. I’ve always enjoyed the works of LaVryle Spencer, Pamela Morsi, Jude Deveraux, Rachel Gibson and Christie Ridgeway. I’d have to say that all these authors have influenced my writing in one way or another. Gibson and Ridgeway are masters at including humor in their stories. I’ve found inspiration from Spencer and Morsi because they often write of uncharacteristic heroines. I like a story about the average woman finding love and romance. Who cares if the thin, gorgeous heiress finds love? I want the middle-aged frump to prevail. I’ve always enjoyed Deveraux’s work because she does such a fun job of incorporating characters from other books into the current book. I always feel like I’m in on a secret because I’ve already met the hero’s best friend.

RR: What led you to the erotic genre?

LZ:I was writing contemporary romance under the penname Claire Croxton. Turns out my sex scenes are considered “hot” and the editor suggested that I give erotica a try. Wow. Am I ever glad she did.

RR: Are you currently working on anything deliciously wicked?

LZ: I’m working on a short story set in Japan. There are some really wicked scenes that take place on a crowded train. I’m getting a lot of enjoyment writing that. I also working on one about a phone sex operator.

Dinah barked and ran circles around me as I shut the door to my truck and climbed the steps of my cabin in the woods above the big house. I flung the door open and Dinah flew past me and barked louder. When I turned on the lights, I stopped short.

Ross Spears stood in the middle of my living room. He laughed and reached down to pet Dinah.

I leaned against the door to steady myself. “What are you…”

RR: Tell us a little about " Coming Back"

RL: “Coming Back” is a story about lost love and all the emotion that entails. It’s a story of angry passion, needful passion and a battle of wills to fight for what both the hero and heroine both need to move forward. Loved writing it! :)

RR: What was your inspiration for this wicked story?

RL: Rather than inspiration for the story idea itself, I started writing Coming Back when I heard the heroine’s voice in my head.

I was ironing and suddenly a female voice said, “That’s it, I’m going celibate.” That was I had. Then I answered the questions. Who? What? Why? When? How?

RR: Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp or was it written for the purpose of pure naughty enjoyment?

RL: A lot of my books have a central theme of ‘trust’. I only recently realized this when a fellow writer pointed it out to me. I suppose my message in this story is about trust and open communication. A lot of heartbreak can be avoided if we were just honest with each other!

RR: Describe your writing process?

RL: What’s that?? Only joking! I certainly don’t wait for the muse to strike. I treat my writing as a job and do it even when I don’t feel like it. If I’m stuck for ideas, I usually scan the newspaper or chose a favorite episode of a TV program and see how I can make it different.

Then I just write. The first draft is my ‘dirty’ draft where anything goes from start to finish. The second and third drafts are where the hard work comes in!

RR: How long have you been writing?

RL: I am fairly new to erotic romance writing and started about two years ago. I’m still learning and my editor and fellow authors have played a huge part in that.

RR: Are there any authors you would name as influences?

RL: For storytelling and characterization, I admire Nora Roberts – for me, she continually does what she’s supposed to – deliver great stories. As far as sensuality and the art of writing erotic romance, there are too many to mention.

I read the genre, enjoy the genre and hope to continue to be published in the genre. Erotic romance is romance but with that added freedom of making the most of physical expression.

RR: What led you to the erotic genre?

RL: I’ve always loved to read it but when I started writing, I only wrote mainstream romance but found the love scenes weren’t as explicit as the characters wanted them. Therefore, erotic was the way forward!

RR: Are you currently working on anything deliciously wicked?

RL: I am due to start a brand new story this week – I have started sketching out a plan but it’s too early to give you the details. My characters are always British but I put them anywhere in the world.

My latest (which was just accepted by The Wild Rose Press) is set in Zante so I might have to come home for the next one ;)

RR: Tell us a little about "TWICE IN A LIFETIME".

RR: What was your inspiration for this wicked story?

JJ: I wanted to write something that was different than the virginal-girl-meets-boy type story. I wanted two lovers who knew each other – and each other’s bodies – very well. :)

RR: Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp or was it written for the purpose of pure naughty enjoyment?

JJ: Just naughty pleasure!

RR: Describe your writing process?

JJ: The word sporadic comes to mind. LOL I’m more pantser than plotter, though I usually know the opening scene, the black moment and the end. The rest I let play-out in my head as I write.

RR: How long have you been writing?

JJ: I think this is year 5.

RR: Are there any authors you would name as influences?

JJ: I love Emma Holly’s work and PJ Mellor – who I got to meet last year and she is a wonderfully nice person!

RR: What led you to the erotic genre?

JJ: I always felt something was missing when I read “closed door” sex scenes, so I picked “spicy” books. When I discovered the erotic genre, I was hooked!! It was like what I’d been looking for as a reader. It was a no-brainer for me what I would write. :)

RR: Are you currently working on anything deliciously wicked?

JJ: I’m writing another western historical (my debut novel, RAFE’S REDEMPTION, was an erotic western set in 1866) set in Alaska during the gold rush in 1898.

RR: You've got six key words to describe your own wicked fantasy. What are these six words?

JJ: “Mmm.” Ian watched her wander to the window and stare at the water, knuckles white as she gripped the sill. His wife was a bad liar.

She turned, smiling a little too brightly. “Why don’t you come to bed? You look exhausted.” Grasping his hands, she tugged him to his feet.

“I thought perhaps we’d have a drink.” He strolled to the cabinet and uncorked the rum. “We were going to talk. Remember?” His confidence bloomed at her panicked expression. She was hiding something, and he intended to find out what.

“Could it wait until tomorrow?” Her words brushed his bare shoulder. “I don’t really feel like talking.” Slow kisses tickled down his spine, her tongue warm and wet.

Oh, she would make an excellent spy. Sex as a diversion. Well, it would not work— at least not on him. But testing her resolve promised to be a delight. Just what secrets would she divulge while in passion’s grasp?

I absolutely inhaled this story. Non-stop heat and chemistry pulled me in. I couldn’t get enough of their heat and I devoured this book in one sitting. One cold shower later and I was researching Ms. Raines’ other works and then started the whole process over again. Legally Bound is not the first book set at the BDSM club, Eden. Eve’s best friend’s story is told in Welcome to Eden, a delightfully sinful short story. Another short story set at Eden is Pure Sin. It’s about two employees and their battle of wills.

I would highly recommend Legally Bound. It would be a wonderful story for the beginner reader of BDSM and even the more experienced connoisseur. While it does show the more tender side of the lifestyle, you can’t help but be pulled into the romance and passion of these two people. I do believe that humor and a strong hand can make for an exciting exchange in the bedroom or dungeon and Ms. Raines does a fabulous job conveying both. So if you like your BDSM on the more tender side, with a splash of humor, pick up Legally Bound. You won’t be disappointed.

At the challenge, Eve lifted her chin a measure while the wheels in her head nearly flew off their tracks. This could be her chance to finally put Donavan’s doubts about her being a Mistress to rest. “Care to make a friendly wager, then?”

Donavan studied her thoughtfully. “I’ve been known to make a bet or two. What did you have in mind?”

As if deep in thought, Eve tapped one freshly manicured fingernail against her lips. She wasn’t however. She knew exactly what she wanted.

All right, so I'm still slacking on the blogging but I have a few decent excuses. I'm in edits with my latest in the Eden Saga, Legally Bound...I'm trying to finish my newest BDSM currently titled Political Ties and hey...it's bloody summer! I'm not sure how much you people know about summer in Alberta Canada but let me tell you, it's short as all hell. I mean SHORT.

Also, I quit smoking. Yeah, you heard me. 1 month/1 week/3 days. Christ, I'm a miserable-god-awful-shrew when I'm not smoking. Wow. It is a miracle that my husband hasn't divorced me yet. So yeah, the writing has been slow and the blogging even slower. Not to mention trying to keep up with this twitter, Facebook, and blog business isn't exactly something I excel at...at least that's what I'm finding out. So please bear with the lack of consistency. I will get on top of it one day. I swear it!

Any other writers out there who've quit smoking? How do you deal with the anxiety, the lack of creativity, and the need for a distraction? Not to mention keep up exercising and eating healthy when you would much rather lay on the couch with an extra cheese pizza and a tub of ice cream?

Defeat had never tasted so bitter.

Even a double shot of McKinley’s best scotch couldn’t dilute the taste that formed in Donavan’s mouth the moment Judge Bishop struck down his gavel in favor of Arthur Langly. By morning the outcome of the case would be splashed across the pages of every tabloid in Los Angeles, along side his self respect.

He’d lost high profile cases before and bounced back. In time, the respect of his peers could be restored and his professional reputation wouldn’t take too much of a hit. Everyone knew that clients lied to their lawyers, and Harriet Langly had sure pulled a fast one on him. However, it wasn’t merely the backlash of the Langly case making his temples throb and his gut churn.

His seductive adversary now owned his ass for the entire weekend.

“Don’t worry, I’m not a cruel mistress,” she had whispered on her way out of the courtroom. “We’ll start slow. Maybe my first order will be for you to give me a nice long massage. I love a good massage.”

Oh, he had no problem with her wanting him to put his hands all over that long luscious body. His cock throbbed with the thought. Since law school he’d wanted to get his hands on Evelyn Morgan. Donavan slowly craned his neck left and glared. Evan Chamber’s, his oldest friend and confidant occupied the stool next to him, offering a sympathetic wince.

“Maybe not,” Donavan agreed. “But, with any luck I’ll drink myself into a coma so deep there’ll be no possible way Eve can expect me to follow through with our wager.” He picked up his refilled glass, tossed it back, and then clenched his teeth as it burned going down.

“If I know Eve, and I think I do, there’s no way you’re getting out of this one.”
Donavan scowled. Evan was right. He was always right.

Evan had the ability to read people. That’s probably what made him such a successful business man. Seven years ago when Eden opened, Donavan wasn’t entirely convinced Evan had what it took to run his own business. Soon after, he realized that entrepreneur ran in Chamber’s blood.

“If it’s any consolation,” Evan continued, “I hear Eve takes very good care of her slaves.”

“Blow me.”

Evan chuckled then took a pull on his beer. “Isn’t Harriet Langly in her seventies?”

“Seventy-five,” Donavan grumbled. “And as limber as a goddamn ballerina. You’d think Eve forcing me to watch that sex tape would be punishment enough.”

“That good, eh?”

“Let’s just say after the scene with the gardener I’ll never be able to look at ornamental shrubbery in the same way again.”

Evan laughed harder now but Donavan’s scowl only deepened.

This was not how he pictured things transpiring with Eve. She claimed to be a mistress yet her body screamed submissive. Whenever he whispered naughty, shameless words about taking her in hand, her lashes always fluttered and her cheeks always flushed. When he cornered her in a hallway like a lion stalking his prey, excitement lit in her vivid green eyes. Eve might say she was a mistress but people lied every day. Physical reaction didn’t.

“My apologies, sweetheart, I can’t quite remember your name.”

“Marcy. Marcy Baxter.” She beamed and gave him a playful slap on the shoulder but the name didn’t ring any bells. “Ms. Morgan’s assistant.”

Ms. Morgan’s assistant…Duh.

“Right. Right, Marcy. Of course. Sorry, my heads still a bit fuzzy from the case.”

“It’s okay.” She continued to stare and nibble provocatively on her lower lip. “I’m sorry about the loss.”

“Ah.” Donavan raised his glass. “Happens to the best of us.”

“True. It could just as easily be Ms. Morgan sitting here drowning her sorrows. I had to burn three red lights in order to get the tape to the courthouse in time. Luckily, I made it with twenty minutes to spare.”

Donavan went ramrod straighten in his chair and turned to her. Twenty minutes before the recess ended was about the same time he and Eve were chatting in the hallway.

“Marcy, you said that this is the second time seeing me today—did you happen to see me at the courthouse?”

“Where else?” She giggled. “Maybe you didn’t see me. You were talking to Ms. Morgan when I got there.”

Evelyn Morgan…you little cheat.

“Oh shoot, there’s my order,” Marcy said. “The fish and chips here are to die for. A bit unhealthy but you gotta live a little right?”

“No point in living if you can’t indulge in the sinful from time to time.” Donavan offered a polite smile while indulging in the fantasy of ringing Eve’s slender neck.

“Well, see ya around. It was nice running into you.”

“You too, Marcy.” You have no idea how nice. “Enjoy your dinner.”
When Marcy was out of earshot, Donavan whirled on Evan.

“She played me.”

“So it would seem,” Evan agreed with a chuckle. “Getting played by two women in one day, how unlike you.”

It certainly was unlike him. The horrifying image of Harriet Langly in all her glory resurfaced and Donavan flexed his jaw. At least with Harriet, he had an excuse for lowering his guard—he hardly knew the woman. But Eve he had known for years. She was calculating and shrewd. Two of the attributes he most admired about her had come to life and bit him square on his unsuspecting ass.

“So, are you going to call her on it?” Evan asked intrigued.

“Oh yes,” he murmured. “But, not just yet.”

“You’ll follow through with the bet then?”

“For now,” he answered.

Donavan had a hard time believing Eve would be as noble when it came to him collecting on their agreement. As much as he didn’t like the idea of playing the good slave, he would have to until he got her alone.

“But, Evelyn Morgan is about to discover that she isn’t the only one who can play dirty.”

"Come here," Evan said from across the room.

She could think of no better time to test his limits than now. "What if I say no?"

Something in those midnight eyes sparked and sent a chill through her right before they narrowed. "No?"

"That's what I said," Defiant, she met his stare.

He arched a brow and then crossed the room to stand toe to toe with her. It still amazed her she had to look up at him. That rarely happened, especially when she wore heels, but somehow it made her feel surprisingly feminine. He lifted a hand slowly, slipped it to her nape and into her locks of blond that spilled down her back. His fist clenched and the pressure of his grip alone made her knees buckle. Regardless, shelooked into his eyes, unwilling to back down. This aroused him, she could tell, and more than anything, she wanted him turned on as much as she was.

He started forward until for the second time this evening he backed her to the wall. His rock-hard cock rubbed against her lower abdomen and she imagined what it would feel like when he filled her, stretched her, pounded her....

Hey everyone and anyone who stumbles across my blog. I know it's been a long time. Shame on me. As you probably know, I'm horrible at keeping this thing up to date but here I am, trying again...lol.

Quick update: I've been working tiresomely on the third installment in my BDSM series and I'm hitting the home stretch. With any luck the first draft will be completed by the end of September and I can begin edits. Then comes the submission process. Cross your fingers.

Heading Off For Vacation

Off to the lake...yippeeee. Ten stress free days of nothing but fishing, eating, and visiting with family! Okay, well if you're a writer then you already know I just lied my tail off. Stress free? Hmm, wouldn't that be lovely. Vacations are normally a time to enjoy yourself, get away from work and responsibility, right?

Dare to dream, eh?

To tell you the truth, nothing stresses me out more than the week before I leave on vacation, and usually the first three days into one until I'm settled in. I'm sure some of you may agree that the thought of putting your unfinished manuscript on hold, along with marketing and edits can be quite stressful. But you can't let that stop you from enjoying a little down time.

I've discovered that I'm what they call an "over-analyst". Sounds pretty important and distinquished, right? Too bad being one tends to have my tummy tied and my mind working around the clock until I've worn myself out enough to actually sleep.

One would think this post would have an upside...err...and I'm trying to find one right now--oh yes, how to actually enjoy your vacation when you're an over-analyst. I'm not an expert but my answer is...Force It.

Most writers are overly critical and equally hard on themselves. Taking time for #1 is usually the last thing that comes to mind. But believe it or not, once in a while, it must be done.

I'm not saying that everyone is able to force themselves out of the house to enjoy life and take some well deserved R&R . However, regardless of how it happens, it's really nice once you get there.

If anyone has little tricks of their own on how you unwind and allow yourself a break, I'm all ears!

I don't normally blog this often but I had to announce my first review for Welcome To Eden. I think most writers can relate to the anticipation when awaiting the first review on a new story. Regardless of whether we believe our work is up to par or not there is always the question in the back of our minds on whether or not our work will be reciprocated postively and with open arms. So this was a very big day for me. :)

"Come here," Evan said from across the room.

She could think of no better time to test his limits than now. "What if I say no?"

Something in those midnight eyes sparked and sent a chill through her right before they narrowed.

"No?"

"That's what I said." Defiant, she met his stare.

He arched a brow and then crossed the room to stand toe to toe with her. It still amazed her she had to look up at him. That rarely happened, especially when she wore heels, but somehow it made her feel surprisingly feminine. He lifted a hand slowly, slipped it to her nape and into her locks of blond that spilled down her back. His fist clenched and the pressure of his grip alone made her knees buckle. Regardless, she looked into his eyes, unwilling to back down. This aroused him, she could tell, and more than anything, she wanted him turned on as much as she was.

He started forward until for the second time this evening he backed her to the wall. His rock-hard cock rubbed against her lower abdomen and she imagined what it would feel like when he filled her, stretched her, pounded her….

"Let me tell you something, sweetheart." She gasped as his hands went to her shoulders and locked her in a solid hold. "In this room, I don't take no for an answer."

The long-sleeved navy blue shirt stretched across his broad shoulders defined all the taut corded muscle perfectly. Nice tan, too, probably lived somewhere near the beach. And that chest…wow. Without a doubt, he had to be the most attractive man she had ever laid eyes on, and thanks to the liquid courage, she didn't even feel embarrassed oogling him like he were a slice of New York cheesecake. Well, if she had to belong to someone, it might as well be to a man who looked like a Roman God….

Caitlyn winced at the voice of reason in her head and cleared her throat. "I'm sorry but you must have me mistaken for someone else. I don't belong to anyone."

"Of course you don't. Evan Chambers. Eden is my club," he said smoothly in a tone rich as Kaluha. Her eyes automatically closed while his creamy voice tingled in her ears. It didn't help her concentration that he smelled fantastic, too, like sandalwood and pure man. She gave herself a mental shake and opened her eyes. Now, he stared at her impatiently, his brow arched even higher.

"Oh, sorry, I'm Caitlyn." She held out her hand but he didn't seem at all interested in shaking it.

"Take a walk with me, sweetheart. There are some rules you might want to know about this club and I can't stand being sticky. I need a new shirt.”

Sara glanced over her shoulder when the screen door opened. Mike. The pan she'd been drying fell from her hands and clattered to the floor.

"We need to talk."

"Where's Garrett?" she asked, attempting to peer around his broad shoulders. She tried not to make eye contact with him. As long as she didn't look him directly in the eye, she'd be able to maintain her composure.

"You've always put him on a goddamn pedestal." She bent over to pick up the pan. "Don't you dare say anything unkind about him."

"He's a pain in the ass."

Sara shot him a look. "He's not the only one."

A slow smile curved his lips. "Now there's the Sara I know and love."

"Don't you dare throw that word around. If you loved me we wouldn't be in this situation." A surge of emotion tightened her chest, and she silently cursed herself for letting him get to her.

Hands on his hips, Mike sighed. "Look, I know you have every reason to believe that, but it's just not true. I've loved you since the first moment I laid eyes on you."

She paused. God, how she wanted to believe him. But if he'd truly loved her as he claimed, he'd never have been able to stay away for so long. She swallowed past the lump in her throat and reached into the drainer for something else to dry.

"All right, I'm done playing. Come on, we're going for a ride." Mike reached out and grasped her elbow.

"I'm not going anywhere with you," she said, yanking her arm free. "If you want to talk, we'll talk, but we're doing it right here." She tossed the dishtowel on the counter and crossed her arms over her chest.

"You either follow me to my truck or I'll throw you over my shoulder and carry you there. But one way or another, we're taking a ride."

She gasped. "If you touch me I'll scream bloody murder."

"Then I guess I'll have to gag you as well." He took a step toward her. She took a step back.

"You stay the hell away from me." She took another step back and bumped into the table. "Not a chance. I made that mistake once, I won't make it again."

Chapter 1

Ryan White tried not to stare. He really did. But he was a man, and she was so damn sexy. More importantly, she was in the process of taking off her clothes.

From his desk in the living room, he watched one of three black and white monitors from the surveillance cameras hidden in Paige Knowles place. For two weeks now, he'd been staking out her house. The Bureau didn't consider her the simple owner of a small, online video store. They suspected her of being involved in an internet piracy ring in Phoenix . From what Ryan had seen, he didn't believe it.

But he had to prove her innocence. He'd managed to get the cameras inside her home, but hadn't yet had the time to search for any incriminating evidence. Soon, though, he'd figure out a way.

He took a deep swallow from his beer, but the drink didn't sooth the thirst and anticipation burning through his body.

Eleven-thirty and right on schedule.

In her master bedroom, Paige walked to her bed and unbuttoned her blouse with slow, sure movements, making him wonder how capable those same hands would be on his own body. No doubt, they'd be just as deft as they danced and stroked his flesh. He shifted in the office chair, unable to control the hunger pooling in his groin.

She tossed back her dark hair with a jerk of her chin before shrugging out of the sleeves and dropping the shirt on her bed to reveal a black bra that cupped round, full breasts. Damn, they were a perfect size for his hands.

Next, she pulled off her jeans. The denim slipped over her lush hips and settled to the ground around her ankles. She stepped from them on lean, incredibly long legs that looked strong enough to wrap around his hips and bind him to her.

When she reached around to unhook her bra, Ryan swallowed with difficulty and swiveled his chair away from the desk and the screen. Conscious of her vulnerability, he looked away in a valiant effort to afford her some privacy. Each evening as she got ready for the night, he'd found himself drawn to the screen like some perverted voyeur. Every single time, he gave in to his sickness and savored every tantalizing glimpse of her naked body.

Tonight Ryan lasted a full minute before he caved.

He rolled his chair back around and stared at the monitor.

Oh, shit.

Ryan jerked up in his chair and set his beer on the desk with a loud thump.

Winter blues wreaking havoc with your writing?

I probably should have written this at the beginning of winter but it's just sinking in now. With spring on quick approach, good old winter will soon be a faded chilly memory for a few months, at least where I live. I'm glad to say that now, the creative juices are flowing and my fingers are flying across the key board. I was wondering though, does anyone else think that the season can have a serious affect on your writing?

Here during winter, the sun barely peeks out from behind the clouds once a week. Over the season I noticed that my moods are different, my writing slow, and my creativity resevior completely drained. Some of my friends ask, "Why would it bother you, you're in doors during the summer months too?"

True, I am in doors alot of the time but I do have a large picture window at my back and a beautiful park across the way. In the summer months it's filled with people, walking their dogs, pushing baby strollers, and the sound of children playing. During the winter months it's like the plague hit and there's no one left on the planet.

So the truth for me is, winter can be depressing. The roads are covered in snow, dirt and sand, and most people spend alot more time indoors. One thing I do in the winter is take vitimin B. This makes up for the sun lose. I eat more vegetables and try to still exersise, wether it be at the pool, on a tredmill in doors. Exercise is always good to get the creativity flowing. If that still doesn't work, I take a step back and let my work simmer.

Anyone else have little tricks to keep the writing flowing during the winter months? Drop a comment, I'd love to know!

Bon Jovi Concert...FANTASTIC

Yeah, this has nothing to do with writing...other than the fact it's creatively inspirational...LOL.
Went to the Bon Jovi concert in Edmonton, Alberta last night. Although the highways were horrible and no travel at all was reccomended by highway patrol, we made it! And it was well worth the travel.

The 7th row FLOOR seats I got for my birthday were so close I swear halfway through the show, I could see the sweat dripping down the faces of those hot men! I'm still vibrating from everything it was so awsome. If you haven't seen these guys in concert, you should.

Okay, here are some more ramblings...I finished polishing up my story and submitted. Phew, what a relief. Feels good to have that done. Isn't it funny how even once you're past your first acceptance that the nerves never go away? Before hitting the send icon, I noticed my fingers shaking...lol. Does anyone ever get over this? Hope not, it's actually a good feeling. Okay, just thought I'd put something up here since it's been a while. :)

Wow. First of all, thanks for stopping by. As you can probably tell by the state of my blog I've got no clue what I'm doing. Either way, I'm thrilled to be setting one up and even more thrilled to have someone reading it...lol.

So here's the latest, I've got one story out with The Wild Rose Press right now and another in edits.
